Cabin Fever Arts Festival

Saturday, February 27 -- 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The 6th Annual Cabin Fever Arts Festival will be held the last Saturday in February. The festival is organized by the Appalachian Artisans Guild, in conjunction with the Art Department at Southern State Community College. The college sponsors a competition for art students attending high schools in it's service area, which culminates with awards being presented the day of the festival. The event is held at the college's Appalachian Gateway Center, 12681 U.S. 62, Fincastle, Ohio (map). There will be food, live music, and many booths featuring handmade traditional arts and crafts exemplifying the Appalachian experience. Admission is free.

Quilt Show

Handcrafted quilts will be on display, featuring creations by three local quilting groups: Bits and Pieces (Greenfield), Country Quilters (Hillsboro), and Highland County Quilters).

Jim will be sharing his miniature antique farm implements.

Civil War Display

The U. S. Grant Homestead Association celebrates the life and legacy of Ulysses S. Grant and the Brown County Civil War soldiers. The group will have a room filled with photographs and displays of weapons, maps, equipment and food to illustrate the life style, struggle, and accomplishments of the local Civil War soldier.

Hands-on Workshops

Preregistration is required. Email us at member@appartguild.com to register. Payment can be made the day of the festival.

• 10:00 am and 3:00 pm Heirloom Egg Students will learn the old Hungarian art of etching designs on dyed eggs. Choose morning or afternoon session. $10.00


• 11:00 am Soap Making Participants will create their own scented liquid soap to take home. The workshop will include a brief instruction on the natural liquid soap process and benefits to your skin. Materials provided: dispensing bottle with pump, liquid soap, essential oil or fragrance oil. $15.00


• 11:30 am Sleeping Mouse Participants will make one mouse, sleeping in a walnut shell, and take home supplies to make two more. $10.00


• 1:00 pm Beginning Dulcimer This will be a one hour introductory class for beginners. Participants must bring their own instrument. $10.00


• 2:00 pm Silver Clay Jewelry This workshop will involve using blow dryers and Dremel tools to make a 5 gram fine silver necklace. Note: class lasts 2 hours. $25.00


• 2:30 pm Mountain Dulcimers - Jam With Sue Music and instruction will be provided for a fun-filled jam session, adapted to include all levels of experience (beginning, intermediate and advanced). Participants must bring an instrument and stand. $2.00

Master Gardeners of Adams County

The Gardeners will be donating their time to assist with registering guest, providing information, handing out door prizes and helping guests navigate around the building. They also will be manning their own booth in the Gateway Center, to answer questions about their organization.
